Technology Standards II and III
Technology Standard II: All teachers identify task requirements, apply search strategies and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Technology Standard III: All teachers use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
In our 6th grade science and math classes, my mentor and I use Skyward to enter our students’ grades. This system keeps us organized and allows the students and their parents online access to their learning progress. For all secondary Science Unit tests throughout our district, we use C-Scope created assessments. This bank of questions is entered directly into a program named, Aware, which students take online through iPads or on computers. Student results are shown immediately in Aware and teachers can then determine how they will use those results. Eduphoria is the overriding system that encompasses Aware. This year, our district has started using Office 365 Outlook for email, which allows my mentor and me to easily collaborate on documents.
Our district also implements the MSTAR at the beginning of the year for math, which is another online assessment system. It provides the probability of success for each student in his/her current grade. If a student is flagged, then further MSTAR diagnostic assessments are required to determine where exactly that student may stumble this coming school year so that preventative measures can take place. In addition, the Cognitive Abilities Test™ (CogAT®) is administered in our district, and this assessment will be completed online by students this year.
When teaching my students, Microsoft Word has been my “go to” software to develop Math Mad Minutes, flash cards, information sheets, class notes, game cards, Exit Slips, etc. I used Excel to develop scoring sheets for the game activities we play. I often use Pinterest and Teacher pay Teacher websites to acquire new material for specific content topics. I employ search engines to locate relevant video presentations, real-world math problems, and other content-related material as I prepare lessons and activities for my students.
